    REAL NAME &nbsp,&nbsp, We bought these telephones as a substitute for our old VTechs. We had a problem with our phone system and consequently bought new phones throughout the diagnosing phase. Our VTechs lasted over ten years and, as it turns out, were still working well. So we replaced them with VTechs and happy that we stayed with the same maker. The new phones have all the features we projected and they work great with our phone company’s set up. Easy to create your directory, retrieve numbers, etc. Most of the functions I did without reading the manual. User friendly. You’ll be happy you bought this phone system.

    This phone does EVERYTHING! Sound is very clear. Both handsets and base unit have lit displays. Both have selectable ringer tones and volume. Each has independent “phone books” which may be copied from the base unit to the handsets or vice versa. Both the base unit and handsets have speaker phones. The phone books are super easy to program.

    The answering system with date/day/time works terrifically! you may be able to choose pre recorded message or make your. The answering system capacity is 18 minutes or 64 messages. You may be able to choose between two and seven rings before the answering system engages.

    I like that the base unit works throughout power outages.

    I particularly like the five “speed dial” buttons to phone recurrent friends or family with just one button. Great!

    Call blocking works well.

    Cordless handsets have great range and use rechargeable AAA batteries included. The handset cradle recharges the batteries.

    It has a “handset locator”.

    It supports English and Espahol. Instruction manual is well written and easy to use.

    It has an “alarm clock” feature.

    I haven’t found a better land line phone! Strongly recommend!

    Good:

    Great sound quality. Corded base for power outages. Speakerphone which works great on all parts, both base and handsets. Access to answering system messages from all parts. Functions as an intercom and well, too. 100 number phone book, which may be copied between units either in total or one entry at a time, and nine phone number groups that you may give custom names. Five number fast dial buttons on base. Big, easy to use buttons. Uses rechargeable AA’s I think may have been AAA’s standard batteries, anyway instead of the costly proprietary kind. Supports up to six handsets.

    Not so good:

    Some menus confusing. Direct access to functions using “#” and a numeric code a joke, to me I want to navigate to a function using an intuitive menu, not look up a code in the user manual. On base unit, LCD contrast isn’t high enough to read display without backlight at least in the place we have got it. Doesn’t have a memo function as our last but lower quality system did, so I am in the market for a fridge magnet recorder thingie now which is just good by my husband, as he hated my leaving messages to myself on the answering machine..! , > Can not copy phone number groups between units if you use that function, you’d have to name the groups on each unit and put each phone number in a group individually.

    The reason I gave it a “5″ still is that the “not so good” things I listed mean virtually nothing to me for my simple needs, particularly when bounced against the “good” things, which do mean many to me. Your mileage may differ, which is why I tried to list everything I have noticed about the unit so far.

    &nbsp,&nbsp, I have owned this phone for just over a week and there are some number of things I like about it.

    1. The handsets use two AAA batteries, instead of the specific battery parts common with digital phones. As my experience with my last phone, an AT&T model, left me without the capability to replace the battery, this one thing considerably influenced my view.

    2. Once you get the knack of the memory storage function that part of it’s really quite easy to use, and most of the functions of the phone then become pretty intuitive.

    3. The phone is operational when electrical power is out, which is a moderately common problem where I live caused by thunderstorms.

    There is one thing I do not like about this phone, but it’s a small complaint: the voice control only raises the volume to some level and leaves me unable to hear at the level of volume that I’d favor. But, this is a small complaint for the simple fact that if I pay close attention, which I should do nevertheless I manage to understand all that’s being said over the line.

    The phone comes with a nice and distinctive ringer that may be heard from a pretty distance. The handset use is simple and easy to understand, requiring no reading of information to really begin use.

    Setting the timing of the auto answering recorder is pretty simple also. I have got mine set to record at six rings.

    While I am still learning about my new phone I must say that I’m more than well happy with it. It is far superior to the last phone I owned simply due to kind of batteries used. I appreciate Panasonic for really considering the prerequisites of the user when they intended this phone.

    I recommend it. This phone is nice for the price and is as good, or better, than any other phone at this price level.

If you have ever owned a cordless phone before, and the battery dies, so you open the back of the phone only to find a “battery pack”. You look every where and nobody carries “that” battery pack. Well., Panasonic got smart and did something about that. This phone comes with plain old Nickel Metal Hydride Rechargeable AAA Batteries! No more battery pack! In some years when the original batteries no linger hold a charge I will just replace them with easy to find NiMH AAA batteries.

Typically it is because the customer has a hardware problem and tends to criticize the whole package. I am not doing that here. If this phone did not have so many good points, I could rated it 2 stars. My vision is not that good. This LCD is easy to read. It has an clock/alarm. I missed it in Amazon’s write up, but it can be there. It feels lighter than I’d like, but fit & finish are good. The ringer is plenty deafening but the sounds available are primative. So why three stars? I am returning this package because the sound quality of the earpiece is awful. If it was just one of the two hadnsets, I’d just be returning it for a new one. Unfortunately it is both handsets. The sound is distorted. My son has a deep, resonant voice and it’s impossible to understand him without asking him to repeat many, many time. The new Panasonic system is replacing a five year old Uniden set that worked good.Until I dropped one of the handsets in the, er, toilet. It will never be the same. I thought “Great! I will get a Dect 6.0 setup.” I have now spent some number of days looking for a two handset Dect 6.0 w/o an answering machine. Nearly all the systems include answering machines Drat! Also I find that the descriptions nearly never talk about if there’s an alarm or not. I need one.
    Bottom Line: For the price, this system may be suggested as the earpiece distortion just may have been my two handsets.


    UPDATE!!!

    I’ve bought a different Panasonic set still love the screen model KX TG7432B. It has an answering machine, I just do not use it. I am sorry to say the sound quality in the earpiece is just as awful as the 1st one, see above. I have kept this one because it has everything else I want in a phone.

    Sigh! I will just have to live with it for now.

    REAL NAME &nbsp,&nbsp, it is amazing what could occur when I follow directions. Set up of the KX TG6412M was as easy as taking some minutes to follow the well written information. Once set up, the sound quality was, and is excellent. My wife and I were amazed how light the phone felt in our hands.Easy to hold up to the ear. Being members of AARP we both love the big, readable display numbers on the screen. We also love the fact that each phone takes two triple A rechargeable batteries what a great cost savings when substitute time comes around. They are about 1/3 the cost of normal cordless phone batteries , when the phones aren’t in use and not on the cradle, they’ll hold a charge for eleven DAYS! Talk about energy efficiency. Initial rating? Five stars.Very impressed.

Display is clear and lights up, sound quality is good, and the programming is straightforward. I downgraded my phone service to save many $, so this answering machine replaces the voicemail feature I eliminated plus we needed a phone that shows caller ID anyway. Caller ID displays on ring #2, and the digital answering machine works well. I’m happy with this buy and its cheap price: for what I save on my phone service downgrade in one month, I have a new phone/answering machine.

    Cons:
    Can’t conference two outgoing calls. But you may be able to conference up to two system handsets with one outside call.
    Can save only 50 numbers in the phone book.
    Speaker phone exists only in the handset not in the base. I think this is same for most of the phones in the market.

    Pros:
    Great call quality both using handset and speaker phone
    Excellent range, I’m able to use this phone from my neighbors house. Its amazing.
    Longer talk time and greater battery life. After the full battery charge, I used this phone continuously for two hours in a conference call and I still see three bars out of three in the battery display. Panasonic claims the talk time is 17 hours for this phone but i haven’t tested. I noticed that the standby time is more than five days.
    Alarm works perfectly in the handset
    Light weight handset. The handset uses rechargeable AAA batteries which is easy to get.
    Big buttons in the number pad.
    The screen is clear and you may be able to see the caller ids obviously. The screen is auto shutoff after not many seconds to save battery.
    I’m using one handset but this system may be Expandable up to six handsets

    After looking at other phones, and now owning two Panasonic’s I could not purchase any other brand.

    REAL NAME &nbsp,&nbsp, Verified PurchaseWhat’s this? This new 2009 model of Panasonic’s cordless DECT telephones lives up to its marketing. Sound clear, battery life is long my real first day experience was 3 5 hr talking with 10+ in standby, and range is longer than my last Motorola five GHZ model good enough for a two story house plus a basement. The model will include cordless handsets, answering machine, and caller ID, also as voice prompts of incoming caller ID calls. As a plus, the handsets use AAA Ni MH batteries so easily bought when they need replacing. My old Motorola used the common specific phone Ni Cd batteries with that humorous connector, that lasted less than a year and a high cost to replace.

    Highly recommend this model. The KX TG 643x and 644x series are all the same except for the number of handsets that come in the package and if the base station has own dial capability. This model lets a max of six handsets the 6445 cmes with five handsets so you may be able to buy another if needed KX TGA 641T.

    The caller ID list and address book is centralized, so updating updates the file on the base set. My old Motorola had an address book in each handset plus a shared in the base unit. The voice mail box default announcement is a man’s voice would favor a woman’s voice, but you may also record your announcement

    Lastly, the handsets are small6inch by 1.5 in wide. Not a problem for me but may surprise others. Panasonic sells many DECT 6.0 cordless phones, so do your search carefully. I bought this model because the 64xx model series is new in 2009, plus it has a base station that you may also dial from giving you a seventh telephone set if needed.

    Clarity, there are three big disappointments:

    1. No dedicated caller id button
    Shouldn’t have to scroll through menu to get to
    Caller ids of recent calls as to get recent call
    History is a recurrent need.

    2. Speaker phone volume is too low on highest volume.

    3. System is base centric whereby if someone
    Is using one of the phones, the other phones
    Can not retreive caller ids on recent calls, etc.
    As the data appears to be stored at the base as
    Opposed to each individual phone and when someone
    Is using any other handset, the base is busy
    And can not react to any other handset investigation
    About the phone book or caller id list, etc.

I have generally had Uniden’s, but could not find a decent style phone in that brand, so selected the Panasonic. Looks like phones are like cars.. They have to change the design every year.

    Pro’s:
    A. The phone has a great feel in the hand. Small, light, nice rubberized backlit buttons. I hate the plastic buttons of many phones
    B. Sound quality is great. I’ve not had any issues.
    C. Decent range. Live on a 1/3 acre and had reception in my complete property plus most of my direct neighbors.
    D. Price isn’t bad. Phone +5 handsets for $129 at Fry’s. But add on’s are WAY too expensive
    E. Bright and big LED Screen LOVE this.. My eyes are to get old, not my brain &lt,grin>
    F. Talking Caller ID. Don’t have to run to the phone to see who is calling
    G. Integrated VoiceMail display so you may be able to see if you have got messages. Nice!!!, I can get rid of that cheap flashing red light thingy that does not work well.

    Con’s.
    A. WHY do they all have to have/be answering machines??? It is such a waste with VoiceMail!! It could be great to have an option between a phone with an answering machine, or one without.
    B. You can not name your phones. This was really shocking to me. With the Uniden, we named all the phones.. Office, Kitchen, Master BR, etc. With the TG6445 all you get is 1,2,3,4,5. So when you want to page or conference you must stop and think.. Now which phone is in the Master BR??? Again, REALLY stupid
    C. Wall Mount is terrible!!!! Why can not you have a flush wall mount versus a horizontal one?? It sticks out WAY too far.. So I have stuck mine to the wall with double sided table and I rotate one of my satellites for charging the base unit..
    D. The selection of ring tone’s is REALLY weak.. only 8, and only one or two are worth while..
    E. Reception meter is pretty worthless. I walked one full block and has been impressed by the full strength on the meter. Till I turned it on and got very poor reception.
    F. Phone needs a fitted battery in case the power goes out.. All your phones now become useless as well as the base unit. My new Comcast phone service has a fitted battery, so I will not lose phone service, but I will lose the phone. So we have to have a non powered backup phone just in case. It could be a great feature for Panasonic to add. The base unit can not draw that much power, so the battery may be small enough not to make it overly bulky.

    All in all, not a bad phone, it is the other features or lack of features that are disappointing.
