Great tool. What a scanner should be. This is another world from the speed and software efficiency you have in the average scanner and All In One Printers. So I’m happy to have both a AIO device and this great tool for document management.

    My use:

Now all the invoices and overall, all my printed papers are transformed into searchable pdf into an easy to access archive.

I can recover from a fax or a printed document and edit it in word or excel tables or iWork and save many of time retyping

Business cards are archived in a short time and included in my address book and so also on my iPhone.

    PLUS

A single, easy to use, application manages the fast scanning and economical OCR conversion of printed papers outputting directly in searchable PDF, Word, Excel, email attachment, address book and VCF contacts. Also business card OCR is calm efficient and the bound is caused by weird character and graphics and you may be able to find on many more creative cards.

Compared to what you find in the AIO devices and average scanners, paper handling is superior and errors are evaded. In the case of skipped pages Happens rarely a sensor warns you and show you which page is missing.

    CONS

Only shortcoming is that Acrobat Pro is included in variant 8.0 and not the last 9.0 but I suppose that this will change soon.

    Worth every penny,
    April 19, 2009

By&nbsp,Bryan Hunt Eugene, Oregon United States See all my reviews

I have scanned roughly 15,000 pages with this scanner and it could not have been easier. I did get the sporadic “paper jam” when the sheet feeder picked up the next page as it feeded the current page. Clearing a jam is trivial: pop the cover open, remove the pages, snap the cover back, continue scanning. Considering I feeded in papers from 15 20 years ago, I projected the pages to sometimes stick together. This scanner is worth every penny.

But I mean this in a good way. The ScanSnap S1500M gobbles up piles of paper at an amazing rate. One side or two side scanning takes the same time. I have put just about every kind of paper through it, frequently of mixed sizes and types e.G., legal and letter size, 3×5 cards, newspaper and magazine clippings, unfolded brochures. A carrier sheet is available for crumpled, folded, or very thin paper. I have only had one paper jam an odd shaped, somewhat crumpled page that I ran without using the carrier sheet. Clearing jams is trivially easy due to nearly straight through paper path. I’m amazed by the quality of the scans. Photos on occasion look better than the originals. It small and nearly silent. The software is easy to use. I have seldom, if ever, had a computer peripheral that I was as happy with.

    &nbsp,&nbsp,

My old HP scanner actually, it was not that old died some months ago and it was time for me to get a new one. I accidently came across the predecessor to the ScanScap S1500 the S510 last week while I haved my taxes done and has been amazed at the speed and compactness of it. My tax person also gave it glowing reviews. As I was not aware that Fujitsu made scanners, I thought I’d do a little research which led me to reviews of the S510 here on Amazon. Rather surprisingly, I was surprised to find that the S510 had so many extraordinarily high reviews something that I do not believe I find too frequently, particularly with things like scanners. One of those reviews mentioned that a new model this one the S1500 had just been released by Fujitsu. After many more research it was not still listed on Amazon, I found that this scanner was available and that it had many new features. As it turns out, I was the “first kid on my block” to get one and I am happy I did! This machine is incredible!

The speed is totally blinding an unbelievable 20 pages per minute but, because it scans both sides of a page simultaneously, double sided papers scan at 40 PAGES PER MINUTE! Wow! As with last models, this scanner is small and appears to be well built: it is quite heavy for its small size and fits nicely on my small computer desk. The scanning quality is equally spectacular it scans up to 600 dpi in color, grayscale, and black and white and mine came with a good variety of software Adobe Acrobat 9, Rack2 Filer, and ABBYY FineReader. It scans papers beautifully! While I have been too busy scanning the billions of pieces of paper that cluttered my life for many years this scanner will really do that quickly and proficiently something I have generally just dreamed could be possible, I have not still tried to scan photos, I suspect that this scanner will do a great job but that another kind of scanner could most likely do better for archival purposes.

The only problems I have had were with Acrobat I already have Acrobat nine Pro on my computer I found that importing earlier scanned papers into Rack2 filer were generally listed in reverse order ugh! and Fujitsu tech support replicated the problem. They suggested, but, that I totally uninstall not just repair Acrobat and reinstall it. That did the job. BTW, I received great tech support from Fujitsu.

One interesting thing is that this scanner doesn’t come with TWAIN drivers. Because of this, it isn’t possible to use it to the same extent as other scanners. Just the same, my reason for to get this scanner was to create .Pdf files and this scanner does it like no other.

Overall, I am thrilled with the Fujitsu S1500 there’s no question that it’s the best one I have had and I have had many and is well worth the money the S1500 is the most costly scanner I have ever purchased. I could recommend this to anybody who needs to scan papers.

I scanned about 8000 sheets so far. I have found these settings useful with rack2filer:

    1. Auto color detection, Duplex, Best image quality 300dpi Color/Grey 600dpi BW, alternatives Only Blank page elimination checked no auto rotation slows down page viewing, uninterrupted scanning.

    2. Same as above except change color mode to gray.

    And overall I have found:

The multifeed detector works great and detected many double feeds. It handles old thin thermal fax paper without double feeds pretty amazing, because I could think that if anything could jam or double feed it could be that. The prompt shows the image of the detected multifeed and gives you the choice of keeping it or discarding it this was useful when it detects sticky notes on scanned paper that are supposed to be there.

It handled many old papers barely legible and has done an adequate job picking up light print.

Very light or old papers with light print or pencil hand writing are better handled by forcing the color detection to grey. Otherwise Auto everything works well.

Blank page detection doesn’t work with the other side of lined loose leaf paper or graph paper that has nothing written on it. That’s to be projected but a possible design improvement idea for this product. And to get around this, I have set the scanning side to single sided. Otherwise blank page detection worked well.

Scans looked exactly like the originals and in rack2 filer the binders read and looked also as the paper binders.

When it does jam which was rarely the scanners fault and usually from staples, taped paper or over loading, the prompt shows the last not many pages scanned which makes it simple to recover.

Fanning and creating a step like pattern of your paper stack before loading the paper makes a big difference in preventing paper jams.

    Some of the advantages:

I can take many binders worth on info with me on my notebook without dragging the heavy paper binders in my bag or one of those wheeled bags that my colleagues use.

There is the security of now being able to have many copies of my binders in physically different places desktop, notebook, and off site backups all without using a copy machine.

I need less space for file cupboards files, bookshelves binders, and less office space.

Everything is in one place. My office is too small to have all my binders and files together, but now they all fit in one folder on my hard drive.

Although I’ll still use paper to write on, I do not foresee a reason to ever have to adhere or file papers anymore. Just take notes, scan, and recycle.

The real pictures for Rack2Filer and CardMinder are in PDF files if anything happens with Rack2filer you may be able to generally access the data via windows explorer and acrobat.

I used NeatWorks for my accounting receipts, papers, and business cards for about a year now. The mobile scanner scans at three ppm black and white and 2ppm color single sided only. So for duplex color ScanSnap is 20ppm x 2/2ppm = 20x faster a big improvement. The NeatWorks software is heavy and slow in comparison to Rack2filer and CardMinder.

However, NeatWorks is better than ScanSnap organizer or Rack2filer for receipts. And it can import the PDF scans from the S1500. I recommend using NeatWorks software not the NeatWorks/Desk scanner for receipts, Rack2Filer for papers and CardMinder for Business cards.

Our office has about six of the predecessor to this scanner the S510. They’re very reliable and do exactly what they promise. When it came time to get another scanner, I now looked for a Fujitsu and found this newer model. I ordered it and got exactly what I projected a reliable scanner that needs little babying. We have been pleased with the Fujitsu scanners and will continue to look to them whenever we have a scanning need.

    Verified PurchaseWhat’s this?

I have never had a dedicated document scanner before. In the past, I used the Auto document feeder on my all in one printer/scanner/fax machines to scan papers into adobe acrobat. That meant for each batch of papers, I required to set the color/resolution/paper size/quality settings , then work through Acrobat to save each file. It worked, but it was slow going.

Then I bought this new scansnap 1500, depending on the ratings of the earlier model the scansnap 510. I installed only the major program to my computer the software also will include OCR programs, organizational programs, and acrobat 9, which I already have. I hooked up the scanner and stuck in a stack of old notes I took from many college courses some notes were in color, many were b&w, many on two sides, many on one side, and many of the pages were upside down. I hit the only button on the machine SCAN, and to my sheer amazement, it started flying through the stack of notes without any extra prompts or effort. It then automatically saved my file as a pdf all of the pages were in order, color pages were in color, b&w pages were in b&w, etc. The only issue I noticed was that if there were any marks whatsoever on the back side of my note papers, it included those blank pages in the file.

I repeated this procedure with any papers I could get my hands on. I tried sticking in papers of varying sizes, and it sped through them all without a problem. I’m officially hooked. In a moment of either stupidity or genius, I sliced the spine off of an old book and scanned that in too.

I did notice some things that are worth mentioning specifically: 1 This scanner is much smaller than it looks. I expected something the size of a inkjet printer, but it’s really about the size of a loaf of bread. 2 you must place the papers GENTLY into the scanner or it’ll jam. If I push the papers in too far, it pulls through some number of pages at a time and the software warns you to start over. 3 I’m running the software on Windows seven RC1, so I can tell you that, at least in my case, it’ll work on Win7.

i really like this scanner. It does a great job of just being simple and working.

    Things i like:

    Duplex scanning

Automatic blank page elimination useful for duplex scanning single sided pages

    Includes full Adobe Acrobat

    OCR

Initiate from scanner. You do not have to start from the pc

Specialized biz card scanner it identifies addresses, phone numbers, email, etc

Auto rotate & straighten does not matter how you scan the sheet, it fixes the rotation for you.

    Things i do not like:

Paper feeder errors out usually it is easy to jam the feeder or pull more than one page. This is the single most frustrating thing about it.

Limited paper feeder if i feed more than ten sheets at a time, i have a high chance of jamming the feeder.

Biz card scanner ocr gets company names wrong more frequently than not.

Overall though, I am still pretty happy with this scanner.
