    REAL NAME &nbsp,&nbsp, Being an iPhone 3GS user, I know how costly the simplest things can get. If you like to use up money and want the best of everything, this may not be the product for you. If you’re like me and just want something that works and will not break my heart when it stops working or comes up missing then this is a great deal.

    Such a good deal that I got some number of of them and I have them in my car, my wife’s car she has an iPhone 3G, and I pass them out to my friends as nice gifts.

    The charger feels like a toy, light and I wondered if it worked, but after some number of months of a hard life in my Jeep, it has proven to be a champ.

See all my reviews I just got my 2nd generation iphone and wanted a skin cover and a case for it and was not sure what to get so i order a polycarbanate thin skin for the phone and this case and three other cases from other vendors to see which i liked best… Well i had to come back here and write a review on this one because i was able to put my protecting skin on the phone and it slides easily into this case for which I’m happy… I really took this vendors name and item number and saved it so when i need another I’ll definately get this one…The case feels plenty strong enough with a quality feel not bad at all for a couple of bucks.
    Get this..you will not be sorry

The case is made from soft leather and has a clip and belt loops, so you have two alternatives for carrying it. The cover closes magnetically. There is no have to fumble with velcro or snaps. When my iPhone is in the case, I can ensure that the sound is off with a fast glance. If I listen to music with earbuds, the iPhone fits in the case with the jack plugged in. There is an opening for the jack. The case holds the iPhone in place securely, but you may be able to push it out with your finger using the slot at the bottom of the case. I could greatly recommend this case!

    The only thing I can tell you that is not perfect about this case is that you can not connect your headphones while in this holster. For me that isn’t an issue as I’m usually worried for carrying the phone for daily business use, but many will dislike the lack of support for the iPod features.

    Design & Hardware
    =======================

    CONSTRUCTION: The surface of the N900 is a smooth black matte finish. The build material is lasting aluminum, steel and rubber/plastic. The N900 easily fits in a pocket, being smaller than the N810 but thicker than an iPhone. The four front parts are the position light, closeness sensor, ambient light sensor, and VGA camera. There’s a buyer infrared port universal remote, wrist strap choice, stylus and kickstand. The removable back holds the major camera, SIM, battery and microSDHC slot. Elimination requires many strength but it is reassuring knowing it will not fall off.

    KEYBOARD: The keyboard is side sliding with a smooth, springless system, giving it a hard feel. The keyboard is three row, localized and backlit with rubberized key surfaces. The keys are more hard to use than devices with rounded keys but are easier than virtual keyboards. While reaching speeds of 35 40 WPM is realistic, you will not be writing any novels as expanded use is tiring. It’s possible connect a USB or Bluetooth keyboard, gamepad, mouse and a Wii Remote.

    TV OUT: there’s 480i resolution TV out which uses an included 3.5mm jack with four rings. They are ground, audio left and right, and composite video. Useful for watching movies, playing games or doing work that requires a big screen.

    SCREEN: The 16 million color, 800×480 pixel display is unbelievable. It’s pressure sensitive, 15:9 part and transflective, making the screen easier to see in direct light. It uses a amazingly responsive resistive touch screen allowing use with gloves, fingernails or a stylus. The ambient light sensor changes the light automatically. Lack of multi touch means cumbersome “swirling” gestures in many software but is usually not a big issue.

    CAMERAS: The major camera is a 5MP Carl Zeiss, the same as the Nokia N97. It comes with a sliding shutter to protect the recessed lens. There’s also a front facing 640×480 webcam. The camera interface is the same as the S60. The image quality is sharp, skin tones are vivid and there’s little, if any, chromatic aberration at the edges. The camera uses the accelerometer when photographing so the photo viewer can show the picture “up” but the N900 is held. Take a portrait picture and view it landscape and it will be small. Turn the device and it will fill the screen. There are the following modes: auto, Macro, Portrait, Landscape, Action, and Auto video. The camera can take 848480 resolution video at 25 fps. The video quality is crisp, recording at an remarkable 3000 kb/s but the framerate typically drops to 20fps and the audio quality is metallic. The camera also works with Adobe Flash.

    BATTERY: The battery is a 1320mAh Nokia BL 5J, 22 smaller than the BP 4L. A full battery with unoptimized settings lets about 5 9 hours of uninterrupted talk time, five hours of music or some hours of 3G. 3G/3.5G drains the battery faster than Wi Fi. Lowering light, removing desktop widgets and disabling GPS, Wi Fi, Bluetooth and 3G easily triples battery life. Charging is through microUSB which takes about 4 5 hours for an empty battery. The “complete cycle” technique many people use is for calibrating multicell laptop batteries, but the N900 only has a single cell battery so it is pointless and marginally harmful to do complete discharge cycles as there is nothing to calibrate.

    INTERNAL MEMORY: The N900 has two memory chips. The 1st is a 32GB eMMC: 768MB of ‘virtual memory’ swap, 2GB for settings and software ext3 /home, the last 26GB MyDocs is for your files only software not allowed. The second chip is 256MB of NAND memory RAM used for bootloader, kernel and rootfs, twice that of the N810. Optionally, some number of gigabytes were used for the localized offline Ovi Maps, useful in regions without data coverage.

    EXPANDABLE MEMORY: The N900 has a hot swappable microSDHC slot under the rear panel. It supports microSDHC cards up to 32GB of any class. The included cable can connect the N900 to a computer for easy move of files by letting the N900 to act as a hard drive, though only “MyDocs” is available.

    GPS & MAPS: The GPS is a real GPS and was improved over the N810 caused by the addition of assisted GPS. The cold fix time with data is about 10 40 seconds with accuracy as good as the Nokia N97. Without data it can take long, 15+ minutes. Pre loaded Ovi Maps are available so a data connection isn’t obliged. Ovi Maps will include current weather info using the GPS to show local weather. Navigation and mapping with Ovi Maps is free but there’s no turn by turn voice navigation. The low 1.0 variant is caused by it being the 1st Maemo release of Ovi maps explaining the lack of features it has in comparison to the 3.0 variant available on Symbian.

    FM TRANSMITTER: The builtin FM transmitter transmits the audio from the device into radio frequency so you may be able to tune your car radio to that frequency and play N900 media wirelessly. It works as advertised but must be close to the receiving radio.

    RADIOS: The signal strength of the N900’s 3G radio is weak. It’s possible to turn off the cellular radio without disabling Wi Fi/Bluetooth by going into offline mode , then manually enabling either. Bluetooth DUN and PAN modes are supported via community software. Advanced WLAN security, like different types of EAP EAP PEAP, EAP MSCHAPv2, etc., different ciphers RSA, 3DES, SHA, etc. And “authority certificates” algorithms like X.509, SHA1RSA are all supported. With Bluetooth DUN, tethering is supported.

    AUDIO: The fitted stereo speakers are deafening but missing in bass. They make an satisfactory movable radio. Bluetooth headphones work great. The audio quality of the 3.5mm jack is deafening and somewhat more “forward” sounding than the more “laid back” or “polite” sound of other smartphones but without the answer peaks, valleys or ripples that so frequently mar the important 1,000 Hz. Region. Audio sounds more “present” than with alike devices. The included earphones have a somewhat dirty signal. Higher frequencies hiss, losing details and the light and dynamic volume are shallow, missing weight and depth. The earphone wires feel like they’ll become loose over time.

    Application Software
    ========================

    SCREEN ORIENTATION: Most software and the major N900 interface only work in landscape mode. The only time it may be switched to portrait mode is when making or get a phone call. Rotating the phone into portrait mode opens the dialpad automatically after a delay. Portrait mode for the browser is promised as a software update by the end 2009. 3rd party software orientation is at the discretion of the software developer.

    WEB BROWSER: The in general web experience is amazing, possibly the best available in a device this size. The web browser is MicroB and supports full Adobe Flash, video and applets allowing a fast, full web experience. Tapping zooms and centers where tapped. Making a round motion zooms slowly. Moving a finger off the left of the screen produces a mouse arrow for websites requiring this operation. The Flash variant is 9.4. 10.1 is confirmed for Q1 2010. Many Flash games play good but the keyboard may be iffy. Unfortunately many Flash applets still run after closing the browser and drain the battery. The simplest fix is to reboot. MicroB is depending on Firefox which uses Gecko, Webkit browsers are freely available.

    COPY AND PASTE: Copy and pasting text is allowed in all menus and textboxes.

    SOCIAL NETWORKING: The N900 comes with utilities for using Twitter and Facebook. Social presence is a world service, once connected, the contact list is updated realtime, there is no have to launch ‘Contacts’. IM support for MSN, ICQ, AIM, , IRC and more is available through Pidgin. Video calls may be made over IP using Google Talk. Email supports Mail for Exchange and IMAP/POP3. Nokia/Ovi Messaging gives PUSH email for up to ten concurrent accounts, as well as webmail and keeps the accounts separate. Skype calls may be made using 3G.

    PRODUCTIVITY: Included is papers To Go, a suite of apps for opening MS Office papers. There is a free variant that only opens Office files and a pay variant for creating and editing Office files. Full variants of AbiWord and OpenOffice are freely available also.

    MEDIA PLAYER: The media player works but may be picky. Included are many 720p trailers showing the N900’s speed and amazing screen. Codec support is unclear and experimenting with “mostly supported” media may be a stuttering mess. The media player is okay for music but could use many polishing, the lack of an equalizer was a surprising omission as an example. There are free, community media players like VLC available.

    PHONE: The ‘phone’ part of the N900 may be better for a flagship device. The ‘rotate start’ of the phone interface takes some number of times. There is no way to filter or manage the call log and call length isn’t recorded. It is not possible to send an SMS or access device settings from the phone screen. There is no per contact ringtone support. On the positive side, the call quality and signal strength are excellent.

    INTERFACE: The OS interface is polished and liquid. You may be able to sweep 360 degrees through four desktops filled with your choice of widgets, shortcuts and wallpaper, easily zooming in and out of open applications.     By&nbsp,TrekGeek Florida See all my reviews I received my n900 just some days ago from Nokia USA. For the reasons of this review, I’ll compare it to my last phone, the HTC G1. My opinions are Exclusively depending on the user experiences in the past days with the n900, and since I have never owned an iphone, I’ll not compare it to such.

    Physical layout:
    The N900 is a pretty beefy phone, and rightfully so. While having many heft to it, the n900 is hard and well built. The black metal rim is a nice touch without being too gaudy. The slide isn’t spring assisted but gives a nice click upon opening and closing. I haven’t noticed any creaks or wobbles from the screen. Not many complained about the back being hard to open. Though true, I rather have that with the peace of mind that the battery will not pop out if I dropped it God forbid! the n900 is of comparable size to the G1, although being somewhat thicker, and not a problem for me.
    I do not really understand all the fuss about resistive and capacitive screens. The n900’s screen is gorgeous and is very smart. There’s a little ‘give’ to the screen, but I have still to have problems with it. The screen is quite responsive and supports kinetic scrolling. I did have many difficulty clicking on small links in the browser, but that is because your index finger is not exactly the most correct pointing device. This was easily solved by zooming in more on that later.
    The keyboard is pretty good. It’s a different experience coming from the G1 as you must type with the ‘chin’ in the way on your right hand so naturally, it felt better. The keys have a grippy rubberized texture feel to them, and though the buttons are smooshed beside each other, like a real keyboard they have good answer. I do miss the 5 row keyboard on the G1, and I do not understand why the n900’s screen does not open up a bit more. For those with big hands, it may be a little uneasy. But, one plus for the n900 is that my thumbs do not have to travel as far to type.
    I love that the placement of the speakers are on the sides of the phone, as opposed to the back on the G1. I do many of talking on speakerphone, and so I am not forced to flip it upside down throughout a call. Sound quality is good and the speakers are decent.

    Maemo 5/ Software
    This is the final customization OS. When they meant open source, they really meant it. The four desktops make things many easier to navigate. As an example, one page is devoted to my common phone contacts, another utility apps, the 3rd has bookmarks to recurrent sites the homepages of those links are previewed on the desktop, fyi, and so forth.
    The way Maemo multitasks is ingenious. The “overview” page where you see all your actively running programs makes navigating between windows and programs easy and economical. One thing be aware of is you have the capability to shut out any of those windows upon your picking, as opposed to the G1 where the six app bound neither allowed to you open more nor shut them down, making it sluggish, particularly throughout important times ie texting someone directions while running gps.
    SMS called conversations in Maemo is pretty alike to the G1, but has one added step conversations either in text or IM by the same person are displayed in the same window. The capability to have the other person’s contact image in the text box that is if you set one up for that person is a nice touch. I personally do not care about MMS, so no gripes there.
    The email client is pretty decent, I set up my gmail account with some simple steps, but it is not almost as available as the gmail app on the G1. As an example, I have not found a way to delete an incoming email when it 1st comes in. I have to leave the letter, go into the inbox, back into the email, then delete it.
    Browsing experience is comparable to the pc, and is nothing short of awesome. Full flash means I can access full youtube pages, and among others. I think the “swirling zoom” gesture is pretty neat, and helps me to click on the smaller links. I figured out that using your index to swirl zoom produces the best results. Also, you may be able to double click the screen or use the volume rocker. Going to last pages not only lets you to go to the last page, but scroll through the complete history of that window. Neat.
    Applications wise, there aren’t many out there, but I am certain many will be out soon. You may also access the Maemo repositories for more google it but be cautious as many of them are in development and are possibly dangerous to your phone. Noteworthy apps include Hermes connects your social sites, like facebook to your contacts so you get contact phones, birthdates, etc and Qik live streaming recording.

    Hardware:
    Fast, fast, fast. Need I say more?
    No hang ups still, since I can close apps at my own will.
    The camera is good, that’s for a 5mp phone camera. It’ll never compare to a dedicated camera, but is more than efficient for fast shots to upload on facebook.
    The FM transmitter is a great add on. Now I can share songs without having to look for an aux cable.
    Battery life looks to last a little over a day with many text and internet. Wifi is on all the time when I am at home. My G1 could be down to around 70 by noon.

    Of course, no phone/mobile device is perfect. Here are many things that came to my attention:
    The volume rocker is on the right side in portrait, meaning it’s almost impossible to use as a zoom when the screen is up. Same goes for the lock switch, which is on the bottom in landscape. Could have been much better on the sides, as it could be easier to lock after a phone call, as an example.
    Copy and paste is kinda occasional. While you may be able to copy all you want on webpages, I could not copy a phone number from one contact to another in the phonebook.
    The stand is nice, but it swings out way too deep and feels a bit too weak. I am scared I will break it someday.
    Little portrait support as of now, but I think it will be fixed soon.

    So there you have it. My impressions of the n900. There’s still many of exploration to be done, but I can honestly say this is the best phone/mobile device I have ever owned. In spite of some shortcomings, its an amazing part of technology. Many of things I did not talk about most likely will be fixed inside a firmware or two so that is not a problem. I hope this helps anybody who is on a fence on purchasing one, good luck!

    Skype integration is remaining, 5mpixel camera is great, gps and compass work great with ovi maps, screen resolution and size are perfect!

    Pros:
    Very lasting. I could feel safe using it for outdoor actions like biking, running, hiking, skiing but it is not waterproof, camping, etc.
    You can use all buttons on the phone.
    Durable belt clip has another feature that makes it simple to attach to your belt.

    Cons:
    Very, hard to detach the case from the belt holster.
    The rubber/silicone outer cover frequently gets bunched up when you attach it to the belt holster.
    Most importantly, the fitted screen protector gets splotchy and greasy easily, nearly as if there is condensation or liquid between the screen protector and the iPhone’s screen. The only way to take off it’s to take the phone out of the case and clean it off which is a nuisance.

    Conclusion: It does not make a good “everyday” case. I only recommend buying it if you are an avid outdoorsman. For everyday use, find another case.

THANK YOU to all those who wrote reviews and helped me pick the Otterbox Defender case! This case is awesome. Lasting, all functions are available. And yes, the oil slicking effect is on occasion present, but easily fixed.

    The ONLY issue I had when I installed the case was that now after I installed the case, nearly 95 of all people I talked to said they heard an echo every time they spoke you know, when you say something and a second afterward you hear it in your ear part. ANNOYING!.

    I has been bummed because the case is built like a tank and already saved my phone from a 6′ drop onto the asphalt in the rain. Though, I decided to take off the felt pieces that cover the mic and ear pieces since they’re only there to prevent possible drops of water hitting those phone parts directly. Once I removed those pieces, not one person complains of hearing the echo anymore! weird, but it worked. So I wanted to pass it on.

    The echo was the ONLY issue I had with this case. It is the best case I could find and WELL worth the money. I recommend it to everyone I see with an iPhone now :

    By&nbsp,Takieya Ontario, Canada See all my reviews I bought the OtterBox 3G Defender for my iPhone through their web site, but I thought I’d talk about how happy I’m with it here. I have heard many of complaints about the oil slicking effect under the membrane, but that problem was easily solved, and has not reoccurred since I placed my phone in the case for the last time.

    Calls are clear through it, and clear on the other end. I have heard some people talk about a tunnelling effect, but that does not seem present. All my calls have been just as clear as they were in my last phone case.

    The OtterBox case is really protecting, and of all the cases I have looked at so far, the sturdiest case for the iPhone 3G that I have seen. I greatly recommend it to anybody who’s looking for a hard case for his or her phone. Well worth the money!

    Rating: Best I have found
    I wanted a horizontal case and I did not want a velcro closure. This is just about the only one available, since Marware inexplicably dropped the magnetic closure. Luckily, it is a great case! it is not leather, but it seems realistic. It has both a belt clip and belt loops, you may be able to use either one. Shipping costs are much higher than the unit price, so get a couple!

    This case is amazing. It is perfect for what I wanted and needed, at a price I could not beat. It has a awful odor coming from it, but airing it out will help. On my belt, it sticks out more than I wanted, but for this price, I can deal with it. AMAZING!

    Just that Awesome fit good in my belt and can put my Iphone good there with the skin protector also.. And for the price is worth it.



    Rating: Good case I recommend
    This case is good. It should read ” leather textured” not textured leather though. The vinyl smell disappears in about 24 hours. The clip is tough and the magnet strong and secure. And the Iphone with a protecting plastic case fits in this one. It didn’t fit in the one I bought at the AT&T store. Service was fast.


    Rating: Terrible plastic smell.
    As other reviewers mentioned, out of box this case has a strong acrid plastic smell. I think it came from the packaging material used to prop up the case for shipment. I doubt there was any health testing here the case came straight from china, so I’m nervous about the smell, but who knows how toxic it really is. Given a couple weeks the smell could most likely fade away. The case is otherwise nice, pretty well made, a little bigger than an iphone 3g case needs to be, but good if you also use a rubber sleeve.

    I think the smell gives me headaches, so I’m giving my case away. But, for majority of people I think this is a pretty hard product if you’re wanting to let it air out for a week or two.
